Need for DigitalTransformation in Construction industry

Construction industry is one of the very old industry.

In the past 3 decades , we see penetration of digital transformation in many sectors .

For example , we can talk about Banking sector. ATMS were introduced, Netbanking came , mobile banking followed, transactions became very much easier. This transformation has fastpaced the banking industry.

But,in construction , the technology adoption to the industry is very low.

There are multiple views to this.

As the day to day work is to deal with skilled labour most of the time , the middle management feels tough to adopt to system. The middle management like project managers are working in the field site most of the time. So , they are comfortable writing everything in pen and paper. Because of the nature of their day-to-day work , they are hesitant to adopt a digital system in many cases.

Why do we need digital adoption in Construction industry?

Project level - day to day monitoring and progress data can be digitally maintained which reduces work load to project engineers and project managers. But , this is not the case with pen and paper/note.

In many projects and sites , the data(like attendance) has to be maintained for regulatory purposes.

So maintenance of data becomes mandatory.

If this is maintained digitally , it can be retrieved easily at any point of time.

All the monitoring data has to be captured digitally, as the site team will not be able to maintain pen/note physically all time.

The site or working team has to enter the data for the first time in the system.

But , the further processing of data and report generation can be taken care by system .

This reduces dependancy on people.

By digital system adoption , the data is maintained in common location in the system. So, the data is accessible by authorized persons.

Whereas , in the manual data maintenance , the data lies with one or two persons.

As , the data is maintained digitally , the reports help the contractors on forecasting their budget for future expenses.

As the site team adopts to the digital system, every team member will be able to perform their day to day responsibilities in the digital system.

By adopting to digital system , all the team members like site engineer/Project Manager/Procurement Officer/Store incharge can work in the system collaboratively. This helps to improve productivity and management will have better visibility on the work progress.
